THE BEST TIME AND PLACE FOR YOUR SESSION

With the exception of newborn sessions, portrait sessions can take place almost anywhere. In general, timing for the session depends on two things: location and time of year.

MATERNITY: Maternity sessions typically take place in the seventh month of pregnancy - this is when Mom looks and feels best. Her belly has a beautiful shape but she isn't feeling the discomfort that is sometimes felt in the last weeks of pregnancy.

NEWBORN: When possible newborn sessions should be scheduled prior to your due date. Your due date becomes a placeholder on my calendar. When your baby arrives we will move the date as needed. Younger newborns sleep more soundly and are able to maintain that adorable curled-up position that parents love so I recommend a date as close to your baby’s birth date as possible.

BABIES: These are typically scheduled so they won’t interfere with your baby’s nap time. While not always predictable, parents generally know the time of day their baby will be at their best. A well rested baby is a happy baby!

CHILDREN, TEENS AND FAMILIES: These sessions can take place almost anywhere at anytime. We could go to a lake at sunset or your very own living room. When shooting outside I prefer early morning and just before sunset because these are the times of day when the light is the softest and most flattering. An indoor session, on the other hand, can take place any time of day.

FIRST COMMUNION: Communion day can be overwhelming. There’s much to do before and after the ceremony. When possible I recommend scheduling a private session for the weeks leading up to or following the actual day on the ceremony.

B’NAI MITZVAH: Many temples will allow photography before the service as long as it is finished before sundown. It’s best to check with your temple director about rules and restrictions.
